The Redcar & Cleveland Liberal Democrats are pleased to announce that Councillor Jemma Joy has been elected as the new Group Leader, following the Liberal Democrat Group’s Annual General Meeting ‘AGM’.

Cllr Joy, who represents Hutton Ward in Guisborough, takes over leadership from Cllr Carole Morgan, who served from 2023 to 2025.

In her first statement as Group Leader, Cllr Jemma Joy said:

“I am honoured to have been elected as Group Leader of the Redcar & Cleveland Liberal Democrats. I want to thank my fellow councillors for placing their trust in me. I also want to express my sincere gratitude to Councillor Carole Morgan for her hard work and dedication as Group Leader over the past two years. I look forward to building on that as we continue to fight for local people and liberal values across the borough.”

Cllr Joy brings a wealth of experience and energy to the role, previously standing in the 2019 and 2024 General Elections in Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, where she lives with her husband and children. The Liberal Democrat group is confident she will lead with integrity, passion, and a clear vision for the future.

Councillor Malcolm Head of West Dyke in Redcar has been elected as Deputy Group Leader, he has previously served as Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland between 2023-2024 and succeeds Cllr Glyn Nightingale of Ormesby.
